South Arts Film Series Spring 2013
Hapeville Hosts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers!
The Hapeville Association of Tourism and Trade, proudly presents Hapeville "Reel to Real" Arts, an Independent Film & Arts Event Series, featuring South Arts Films.

The 2013 Spring Series Screenings will continue on Saturday evenings at the Historic Christ Church & Carriage House starting with a Reception with the Filmmaker at 6 p.m. and the Film Screening at 7 p.m. followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker on the following dates:

February 16: Girl Model

Girl Model, is a documentary written and produced by Ashley Sabin and David Redmon.

Told through the eyes of a 13-year-old Siberian girl and the American scout who discovered her, Girl Model follows a complex, global supply chain of young girls sent abroad to seek their fortunes in the unregulated and often murky world of the modeling industry.

Free China: The Courage to Believe, is a documentary written and produced by Michael Perlman.

Free China: The Courage to Believe examines widespread human rights violations in China through the stories of Jennifer Zeng, a mother and former Communist Party member; Dr. Charles Lee, a Chinese-American business; and hundreds of thousands of peaceful citizens who are imprisoned, tortured and subjected to slave labor for their spiritual beliefs.

Since its completion in February 2012, Free China: The Courage to Believe has won numerous honors that include:
  • "Best of the Fest" at Freethought International Film Festival (Denver, August 3rd)
  • Winner at American Insight Free Speech Film Festival (Philadelphia, May 16th)
  • Top Award in category (international political and cultural documentaries) at LA Awareness Film Festival (May 6th)

Strong! is an inspirational documentary produced and directed by Julie Wyman.

Cheryl Haworth is a young woman with a big dream: to be the strongest woman in the world.  As the 300-pound U.S. Olympic weightlifter prepares for Beijing 2008, she struggles with injury, confidence and her place in a world where larger women are not readily accepted.
