Homestead exemption is a legal provision that can offer property tax relief to homeowners. The real property must be the homeowner primary residence and in the possession of the owner as of January 1 of each calendar year.
As a resident of the City of Hapeville all homeowners who have been approved by the Fulton County Homestead Exemption program can qualify for one of the following three City of Hapeville Exemptions as follows:
- AGED – must be 65+ with proof of age qualifications (Georgia license with City of Hapeville current address) will receive $20,000 exemption applied to their property taxes.
- VETERAN – must submit Veterans’ status (DD24 letter or form) will receive $20,000 exemption applied to their property taxes
- DISABLED – must provide official documentation (Disability status from federal government of State of Ga documents) will receive $20,000 exemption applied to their property taxes
The deadline to submit the City of Hapeville exemption application is June 30 of each calendar year. After approval, you will receive a confirmation letter for your records. It is your responsibility to notify your mortgage company if the property taxes are escrowed.
Exemptions are automatically renewed each year. If the deed is updated or modified to show a change in ownership, the exemption will be removed, and the new owner will need to submit an application to reflect the change.
