In 1991, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced the Lead & Copper Rule (LCR) to limit the concentration of lead and copper in public drinking water and place limits on the extent of pipe corrosion. Since the implementation of the LCR, the City of Hapeville has adhered to the regulations to ensure safe drinking water for our residents and customers with regular testing.
In response to the EPA’s 2021 overhaul of the LCR to produce the Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), all public water systems are required to prepare and maintain and inventory of service line materials on the city side and customer side. Initial inventories are required to be submitted to state agencies by October 16, 2024. The City of Hapeville has been working on this inventory and it will be available for public viewing once it has been completed and reviewed. This is the first phase of a federal initiative to make drinking water as clean and safe as possible. For further info. please see EPA’s FAQ’s and Fact Sheet.
